RROD Fix - Easy

Here are P1 Wimax basic steps for fixing Adsl Line RROD for your Xbox 360.

  1. Make sure the error code is in fact the Red Ring of Death. The link at the end of this article will take you to a website that has all of the error codes listed along with instructions on how to access those codes.
  2. Once you know that you have RROD you will need to open your Xbox 360 console. Disconnect the power! Again the link for the website at the end of this article will show you exactly how to open you console step cheapest broadband service step. You can download free pdf instructions and there are also excellent videos that explain this same process step by step. It is very easy and all you need are common household tools to do it.
  3. Once you have the console open you will need to disconnect and remove the fan and dvd drive. Again very easy, just follow the free instructions.
  4. Disconnect the power button.
  5. Remove the motherboard from the console.
  6. Remove the xclamps and heat sinks from the motherboard. Remove the xclamp studs from the heat sinks. Clean the old thermal paste off of the heat sinks and CPU/GPU chips.
  7. Install new thermal paste. Use 8 screws and 16 washers to re-install the heat sinks to the motherboard. Yes you can throw away the xclamps.
  8. Install the motherboard back in the console. Re-install the power button, dvd drive and reconnect the fan.
  9. Overheat for 20 minutes and let it cool down for 15. Re-install the cooling fans.
  10. Turn on the console and make sure it works. If it does put your console back together. If it doesn't adjust the screws either loosening or tightening and try again.

This is called the Xclamp fix. As you can tell from the description it is very simple. There are free instructions with pictures that you can download and look through to see if this is something you want to try. You can also watch the videos first as well. The screws, washers and thermal paste can be purchased as a kit on our website or you can get the stuff from your local hardware and computer store. However, you will find it is much cheaper to just by the kit.
